Madan One of the new "activity" has been approved by the Cuban government's controversial "sellers of recycled raw materials." This
hard "private enterprise" groups the beggars in Havana who survive by collecting what the rest of society throws away.
Several years ago Claudio Fuentes Madan was doing a series of paintings using waste material and the city has got to be in contact with many of these men and women who literally eat from the garbage.
Most of them are homeless - and without the possibility of buying a home in Cuba because the sale of property is forbidden for Cubans. They sleep in the most sinister of the city destroyed areas of hospitals, abandoned buildings declared uninhabitable for risk of collapse, parks far from the center and in the "favelas" (literally, come and put it on.)    Sono  questi gli  esseri umani che d'ora in poi dovranno pagare una percentuale dei loro profitti allo stato cubano.E' così sadico che si fa fatica ad immaginarlo.Viene voglia di coprirsi gli occhi con entrambe le mani, come nelle scene sanguinose dei film horror. Solo che non è un film, è ciò che resta dell'economia socialista.
   Viene da chiedersi come  mai  questo affare  è così  prospero - non riesco a pensare ad un altro aggettivo - a tal punto che lo stato ha deciso di prendersi una percentuale  dei profitti ricavati.
  Penso che l'educazione civica, questa  leggendaria materia che i  miei genitori hanno studiato a scuola elementare ed io no, ha perso il suo significato semantico a Cuba.Le persone non si sentono responsabili del riciclaggio dei rifiuti che generano : se lo stato ha bisogno di materie prime che se la cavi come può!.
  Ecco perché i punti di raccolta di materie prime soffrono di abbandono sociale e solo i "subacquei" ( persone che frugano nei cassonetti dell'immondizia per   fare la raccolta differenziata e venderla nei punti di raccolta. NdT) si occupano della raccolta delle bottiglie di  plastica and cans.
